There are currently about 1.3 billion smartphones in use globally. By 2017, it's expected that 2.5 billion users will connect through messaging-based apps. Snapchat. Line. Whisper. Tango. These are just some of the call names of a new messaging code that advertisers are trying to understand and speak themselves.

Consumers are focusing an ever-increasing amount of daily actions around mobile, and checking email is becoming one of the most popular activities conducted on such devices. Mobile email open rates dominated those on desktop and webmail in December 2013, and marketers are seeing great returns on mobile marketing emails, as well.

People around the globe are accessing the web via their smartphones more often than ever. So far in 2013, 17.4% of web traffic has come through mobile, representing more than a 6% increase since 2012 when 11.1% of traffic came from mobile.
