There are several causes that can be blamed for the increased poverty in the Philippines. They include low to moderate growth of the economy for the past 40 years and low elasticity of growth of reducing poverty. Other causes include weakness in generation of employment and quality of jobs being generated and high levels of population growth. Failure to develop fully the agriculture sector and high inflation during periods of crisis also include the factors contributing to the increasing rate of poverty in the Philippines.
