Hurricane Sandy - RI: State, city, town announcements

STATE: Peter Pan has suspended service Monday and Tuesday. Gov. Lincoln Chafee says non-essential state agencies, including state courts, will be closed Monday. U.S. District Court in Providence is closed Monday. Fox Point Hurricane Barrier was closed Monday morning. The Newport Pell and Mount Hope bridges may be closed temporarily based on wind speeds.

Bristol-Warren Pub Schools: Closed Tomorrow; Cancel Activities; 10/30 No COZ No busses

Gov. Chafee has directed that only essential state employees, as determined by their respective agencies, should report to work for first shift on Tuesday. First shift covers the 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. time frame and applies to all who work during those hours, except for those designated as essential employees.

After a day where thousands of New Englanders have lost power, roads and buildings have been flooded and winds-and-rain have lashed everyone, we're just on the verge of the worst of it. Forecasters have been warning that Monday evening would be New England's moment of most severe intensity for Sandy.
