Il romanzo "Io, Robot" dello scrittore Asimov è una raccolta di diverse storie, tenere e divertenti, che mentre narrano di Robot, macchine pensanti, danno vita ad emozioni, legami, fantasie in un avvicendarsi di vita costruita e vita reale fino ad una vera e propria sovrapposizione di esse.

In queste storie, l'autore studia dettagliatamente i comportamenti umani e robotici. Dalla sua attenta analisi emerge la minaccia che i robot possono rappresentare per l'uomo ma allo stesso tempo la volontà, da parte di essi, di volerlo aiutare ed essergli fedele, come un buon amico. L'autore, nelle sue storie, applica compiutamente le tre leggi della Robotica, la scienza che si occupa di queste macchine.

Tuttavia, tali leggi rappresentano il giusto espediente per collegare la scienza a ciò che di più umano essa nasconde. Le nove storie narrate da Asimov trattano di "macchine" utilizzate dall'uomo per i propri bisogni, per le proprie esigenze, per semplificargli la vita. Tuttavia, L'uomo e il Robot vengono necessariamente in contatto tra di loro, stabilendo un legame. Ciò che inizialmente rappresentava una semplice macchina a cui erano affidate delle funzioni specifiche, entra a far parte della vita reale delle persone. Si creano rapporti, si vivono rapporti in una sovrapposizione tra ciò che è reale e ciò che non lo è. Ciò che Asimov immagina è il mondo del futuro, un mondo dominato da Robot in cui si alternano realtà e costruzione della realtà da parte dell'uomo. In "Robbie", la prima delle storie narrate in "Io, robot", Gloria è una bambina affidata ad una baby-sitter di nome Robbie, un robot con cui la piccola stringerà un forte legame di amicizia: "Alla fine il robot si girò di colpo e la sollevò in aria, facendola roteare. A Gloria sembrò che il mondo per un attimo si dissolvesse in una vacuità azzurra verso la quale si protendevano bramose le cime verdi degli alberi. Poi si ritrovò di nuovo sull'erba, appoggiata ad una gamba di Robbie e con la mano ancora stretta intorno ad una delle sue forti dita metalliche".

I robot di Asimov non sono soltanto "ammassi di metallo". Questi rappresentavano i primi Robot; tuttavia, con il perfezionamento di queste macchine, essi diventano così simili all'essere umano che diviene molto difficile distinguere il robot dall'uomo, come accade ne "La prova", una delle nove storie narrate da Asimov.

E' vero: i Robot non possono provare emozioni, non sono dotati di espressioni facciali. Questi aspetti caratterizzano la vita dell'uomo ma non quella dei Robot. Tuttavia, essi si sono dimostrati molto utili come strumenti educativi, grazie al coinvolgimento che riescono a creare nelle più svariate situazioni scolastiche e non solo.

Attraverso le tre leggi Asimov dota i robot di una loro etica, un espediente educativo, "un simbolo pacifico ma emblematico che obbliga l'uomo a confrontarsi con il proprio futuro". E un po' quello che accade nella prassi educativa, costretta a riflettere continuamente su se stessa, seguendo le inevitabili trasformazioni che incombono nella società.

Margaret Vega’s landscapes range from the rolling Italian countryside to the dramatic tides of New Zealand beaches. In all of her works, the artist creates an engaging dialogue between the elements found in nature and her own artistic vision. “I am fascinated with our need to reorganize a nature which has its own order,” she says. In her elegant compositions, order is reflected in the artist’s sense of edge, color, and balance. From her placement of horizon, to her sensitivity toward light, shadow, and texture, Vega gives her paintings a strong physical presence and dynamic flow.

Beginning by sketching her concepts, Vega brings her interest of history, design, and sacred architecture to her work. The variety of influences Vega incorporates is drawn from her travels and is paired by the range of surfaces she uses: oil on linen, paper, and canvas. The resulting body of work brings each environment to life while integrating her interest in the marks that mankind has left behind recording our existence.
