No Brasil, milhares de trabalhadores recebem R$ 788,00 de salário mínimo, por mês. Com este pagamento, famílias se organizam de forma a darem conta do orçamento. Os deputados em exercício pela Assembléia Legislativa do Estado de Minas gerais, recebem em média cerca de R$ 25.322,25 de salário bruto, mas com os descontos o valor creditado chega a R$ 17.208,54, segundo informações obtidas no site da ALMG.

Mas o valor parece insuficiente para alguns deputados. Hely Tarquino (PV) e Vanderlei Miranda (PMDB) solicitaram, em abril, o benefício de R$ 4.377,73. O auxílio moradia é um benefício concedido pelo governo à deputados que não têm onde morar na cidade que exercem seus mandatos, ou prestam seus serviços à sociedade.
Apesar de receberem um salário líquido de R$ 17.165,33, os deputados da Assembléia Legislativa de Minas Gerais aprovaram, em 2º turno, no dia 10/02/15, o retorno do pagamento do benefício "auxílio moradia" para os parlamentares. Este benefício havia sido cortado na legislatura anterior.
Conforme dados divulgados pela Assembleia Legislativa, 36 deputados votaram pela extensão do benefício; 22 votaram contra; 11 se abstiveram e 9 nãoregistraram presença.
