Der 1. Mai ist in Bayreuth ein Reizthema. Weil die traditionellen Maiwanderungen in den vergangenen Jahren nicht nur für Freude, sondern immer wieder auch für Frust gesorgt haben - gerade auf der Theta oder in Mistelbach, wo sich alljährlich hunderte Jugendliche zum Feiern treffen. Schon im vergangenen Jahr gab es in Mistelbach Ärger mit den Anwohnern:

Die Theta - traditionell Ziel vieler Maiwanderer - blieb in diesem Jahr sogar ganz zu. Grund: Im vergangenen Jahr waren nur die wenigsten Wanderer eingekehrt; die meisten ließen sich bloß auf dem Gelände nieder und tranken und aßen, was sie selbst mitgebracht hatten. Ihren Müll allerdings ließen viele von ihnen an Ort und Stelle zurück. Darauf hatte die Theta-Wirtin diesmal keine Lust mehr:

Am Morgen des 1. Mai war das Wetter denkbar schlecht.
Der Bolzplatz in Mistelbach, auf dem die jungen Maiwanderer sich in den vergangenen Jahren getroffen hatten, war eine große Pfütze mit Basketballkörben.
Aber das bisschen Regen schreckt echte Maiwanderer nicht ab! Vormittags ziehen die ersten Gruppen mit Bollerwagen voller Bier in Richtung Mistelbach. Man will ja nicht nur von außen feucht werden...

Übrigens war es nicht allzu schwer, den Weg nach Mistelbach zu finden: Vom Bayreuther Stadtrand an hinterließen die Wanderer - naja - "Spuren".
Ja, die Vermüllung des Weges und des Bolzplatzes in Mistelbach war auch diesmal wieder ein Problem.

Everyone wants to ride the Draghi wave, not push back against him. And how exactly was QE pushed so easily through an otherwise deeply divided ECB governing council? It couldn't possibly be becuase those who were most opposed to it were also those most in favour of forcing Grexit. Could there have been a kind of "unholy alliance" between hawks and doves since QE put in place the essential "cordon sanitaire" firewall, one which was going to be absolutely essential to monetary union security should the worst come to pass in negotiations with the new Greek government?

As the IMF put it in their review of the first bailout programme:
"Contagion from Greece was a major concern for euro area members given the considerable exposure of their banks to the sovereign debt of the euro area periphery. The Fund's own rules had to be changed to enable the programme to be accepted by the IMF Board:

A proviso was therefore added to Criterion 2 that where debt was not sustainable with high probability, a high risk of international spillover effects provided an alternative justification for exceptional access. Unusually, although this is entirely legal, this change in Fund policy was made in the context of the Greece SBA Board meeting."
So a programme where there were serious doubts about long term debt sustainability was adopted due to the risk of contagion elsewhere in the Eurozone. The result was that Greece's correction had to be carried out more quickly (or an attempt had to be made to do so) resulting in a much steeper than absolutely essential recession (see below). This way of doing things is not desireable, but even less desireable is to do it, and then fail to accept responsibility for having done so.
The objective of the line of argument being laid out here is not to support the world view of Syriza or the current Greek government, rather it is to suggest that mistakes made earlier are what has produced a climate in which Syriza-type arguments prosper. Simply to blame the Greeks for this is a travesty. Europe's leaders need to look beyond the current Greek government, and think about the long term interests of the Greeks themselves. Starving the Greek government of cash and crashing the economic recovery - which will only foment more radicalism later - is not the way to do things.

The “idiosyncratic” mix of taxes, state spending and structural reforms will not bring the expected revenues of 4.7 and 6.1 billion euros and will not help growth.
The Budget Office says that the economy is relapsing and has been in a recessionary trajectory since the last quarter of 2014. Deposits have dropped by 26 billion euros since then and outstanding debts to the state are almost 3.5 billion euros in the first quarter of 2015.
Most businesses have serious financial problems and huge difficulties with foreign suppliers and clients, the report says. Non-performing loans are increasing and the retail sector is suffering, while new investments are almost non-existent. The economy has reached a point where even healthy businesses are in danger, the report says.
The situation is worsening as the uncertainty over the agreement with creditors is prevailing, and anxiety is increasing as Greece does not seem to come to an agreement. Also, the mixed, contradictory statements by government officials contribute to the people’s uncertainty. Greek people are worried that the country may leave the euro zone.
As the Parliament budget office notes, the economy is starting to suffer from a shortage of cash and liquidity. The banks have suffered a severe deposit loss, and although much of this is covered by emergency liquidity assistance (ELA) obtained via the ECB the fact of the matter is people will be holding on to their hard currency Euros just in case Grexit occurs. This in itself slows activity down.
But in addition the Greek government itself is short of cash, which means it is not paying suppliers punctually, if at all. Those suppliers then need short term working capital loans from banks who themselves are short on capital, and so on. Basically the economy is suffering a severe cash and credit crunch and it is hard to see how this won't have a severe negative effect on economic activity.

The places we are visiting are broken places for different reasons, mostly abandonment and political failures in the management of these terrains. On them, first we enhance practices of restorative topophilia (for example we have developed several activities there, like practices of "perceptive awareness","landscape drawing”, ”alternative choreographic collective movements", "planting flowers", "musical events made out with our voices and a violinist", and mainly "walking" and"strolling along them"... through the walking we have discovered incredible panoramas of the city- unknown for most of the people- which are able to enrich these abandoned places... and make us think of reclaiming their coming back to the community). And then, now, we are trying to search which network of Civic Ecology Practices are involved in these areas in relation with the nearby communities... But let’s go to the beginning of the story:
The beginning is located in one of these abandoned places which is twenty minutes walking from the University where I teach in the Faculty of Architecture.
The place is a collection of around nine enclosures which were built in 1912 for Munition Dumps purposes. The buildings and the topographical changes destroyed the pre-existing natural area. They were actively used for military purposes till 2005 when the terrains are given to the municipality and open to the public... but all the rubbles coming from the demolitions of the buildings stay there and nearby residents are not aware of this area. It remains like a "blind place" to most of the communities nearby... but nature, little by little is conquering again the area (concepts like resilience here are very well understood) and we think that it is a place with a strong identity, which is now being transformed from military and civil war memories into others much more socio-ecological... recovering the place for the citizens daily practices in connection with nature.
Nowadays, it is a place where more spontaneous community practices- more than in conventional and pre-fixed public spaces- begin to take place. At the University we discovered these first actions of reclaiming the place and we decided to act also as universitary community... We began to experience "topophilia" and we began to produce some actions of "restorative topophilia":
Like actions of "atmospheric perceptive awareness", trying to feel with our senses and movements these terrains, making blur the limits of environment and us... this was made in group with volunteers of the unversitary community and some friends of us. they were actions of restoring a topophilia sense along different seasons of the year.
