Twitter's recommendations for introductory machine learning resources!
I'm interested to learn more about machine learning, pattern classification, multivariate pattern analysis, and the ilk, so I thought I'd train my model using the infinite wisdom of twitter. I received so many excellent responses, I thought it might be nice to give back and share them here.

Being a machine learning newbie, I also asked for clarification on the relation between machine learning, multivariate pattern analysis, and decoding, which lead to some useful responses and discussion:
@neuroconscience For me, MVPA is more of a marketing term than a scientific one: the MV bit matters; PA might be more precise as decoding.
@neuroconscience to an extent, pattern analysis = machine learning = artificial intelligence, though some attempt more precise definitions.
@RidgwayGR @neuroconscience Pattern analysis is when one interprets multivariate classifiers. MVPA on sMRI may not be brain decoding.
@neuroconscience machine learning (supervised learning) is just about fitting a model/hypothesis to minimize a cost - as in lin. regression
@neuroconscience MVPA is an umbrella term for various multivariate methods, some of which are machine-learning-based e.g. using SVMs.

Am 31. Dezember verabschiedete sich Eugen Freund von den ZIB-Zuschauern im ORF2. Einen halben Monat später ist er der SPÖ-Spitzenkandidat bei der Europawahl. Freunds schneller Wechsel in die Politik stößt auf Twitter eine Debatte an, ob der ORF wirklich unparteilich ist.

Am 31. Dezember 2013 moderiert Eugen Freund seine letzte ZIB-Sendung um 19:30 Uhr. Eigentlich hätte Freund schon im November gehen müssen. Nach öffentlichen Protesten durfte er jedoch noch bis Ende des Jahres bleiben.

Die Reaktionen auf Twitter sind verhalten, im Gesamten jedoch eher negativ, wie auch der Journalist Nikolaus Jilch feststellt:

Freund ist noch nicht ganz sicher auf der politischen Bühne und ihm passieren bei Interviews kleinere Fehltritte, die auch auf Twitter Resonanz finden. Hinzu kommt eine Debatte über die hohe Abfindung, die er vom ORF erhalten haben soll. Kritik am Wechsel Freunds in die Politik bleibt auf Twitter jedoch weitgehend aus, bis der ORF-Journalist Dieter Bornemann einen Gastkommentar auf news.at veröffentlicht:
